How SDN can help RTC in a modern enterprise environment
by Gert Vanderstraeten, Network Architect, Microsoft IT
Wed, Sept 27 – 1:30 PM
At a large-scale global enterprise level the demands for bandwidth are growing rapidly, while there is a clear change in the expectations of a highly mobile workforce using more and more cloud-based applications (like Skype for Business, Cisco Spark, etc). It is impossible to keep up with legacy private connectivity alone these days and the logical next step is to employ the internet for this purpose. Is the Internet, which was inherently designed to drop packets, provide unpredictable response times, offers limited bandwidth and is one flat address space, now offering opportunities to carry corporate traffic ? How does it impact the user-experience, is it valid for all types of applications including voice and video, what are the issues with traditional approaches and which ones are no longer valid in today’s modern and agile enterprise environment?
During this session Gert Vanderstraeten, Network Architect at Microsoft IT, will discuss how Microsoft is approaching this for RTC (Skype for business) using an open-source based software-defined approach while keeping the quality-requirements for RTC in mind. This strategy fits into a larger automation-initiative within the IT department of Microsoft, which will also briefly be addressed during this session.
Using SDN to Manage Multimedia Sources and Switches
by Brady Johnson, Engineering Manager of Inocybe Technologies
Wed, Sept 27 – 2:00 PM
Software-Defined Networking (SDN) can be used to manage various multimedia sources and camera syncs, simplifying point-to-point networking. The dynamic nature of monitoring end-points, location, and scale will require SDN so that networks can be programmable and reconfigured to accommodate the moving video streams. Intent based networking can simplify this type of interactions and make it possible to interact with seamlessly with video streams.
